Mission & Vision

Mālama Maui Nui is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate, inspire, and empower individuals and communities to beautify and maintain Maui Nui’s environment, thereby supporting its economy, quality of life, and unique Hawaiian culture. Through litter pickups, marine debris cleanups, invasive species removal, native planting, recycling events, and education programs, MMN brings individual volunteers, local businesses, community organizations, and government agencies together to promote the environmental health of Maui County.

The commitment to mālama our islands is central to MMN’s mission since its inception in 1991 (then known as Community Work Day Program).  We envision a community that exponentially multiplies its efforts by working together,  ensuring Maui Nui’s future generations will be afforded the same opportunity to thrive in this safe, beautiful, and ecologically rich environment.

The work Mālama Maui Nui does directly improves the quality of life for residents and enhances the beauty of our communities for visitors. By working together we can achieve our common goals for a healthier environment and reinforce the pride and responsibility we all share to mālama ‘āina. The environmental health of our community affect all residents, visitors, and businesses in Maui County; reciprocally, anyone can become involved in the solution.

It is Mālama Maui Nui’s mission to provide correct information about how to live sustainably, and to empower all members of our community to act responsibly for the environment.

MMN coordinates invasive species removal, litter pickups, graffiti removal, beautification projects, and recycling events on the islands of Maui, Lana’i, and Moloka’i fueled by the power of volunteers, businesses, and community groups with support from the County of Maui.
