Opening Night

Friday, April 7 at 6:00 pm at Maui Mall Center Court

Presented by Mālama Maui Nui and SharingAloha Maui, the Art of Trash is an annual three-week art exhibit showcasing works made out of materials that would ordinarily be discarded as trash.

Centered around Earth Day, the Art of Trash promotes creative reuse, stimulates environmental awareness and redefines how we view “garbage.”

Art of Trash begins with a spectacular Opening Night celebration that includes an artists awards reception and features the Maui Trashion Show. This fun, family-friendly event features all sorts of garments made from reused, recyclable materials made by students and members of the general public.

Attendees are also encouraged to create outfits that inspire reuse and come to Opening Night dressed in “trash.”

The Rules

Artists entering the competition should be mindful that pieces made from natural materials, water feature pieces and works that include food will not be accepted. Judy Bruder, owner of Duck Soup, will jury the show. There is a $15 per piece entry fee.

For more information, call Wilma Nakamura at 573-3911 or by emailing wilma@sharingalohamaui.org.
